One of the problems
threadless set ups seem to encounter is eventually the headset becomes loose
due to the star nut starting to spin. Well not anymore with the Phoenix TLC
Wedge Phorx. TLC stands for “Thread Lock Compression” which is what these forks
will do. Basically the forks have a little threaded area towards the top of the
tube. You will slide your forks on normally, but then when you’re ready to put
your cap on, you’ll notice it also has some threads on the inside of it.
Tighten that onto your forks until it’s how you like it, and then put your bars
over the cap and tighten your clamp. This will put even more pressure on the
threaded cap that is already tightened onto your forks. The result, an
amazingly solid compression system!
- Thread, Lock, Compression
- The point of compression systems is to keep your headset adjusted. The best headsets are threadless, but the problem has always been how to keep the headset from coming loose all the time. By "Locking" the threads of our system, the headset can't come loose.
- Threads on the inside of cap engage with the threads of fork. When you tighten the clamp on the bars, the threads "Lock" together.
- Then screw on the compression cap.
